Durham confronts disparities in pandemic, police misconduct

At a time when many in Durham share anger over police misconduct against black Americans, news of more inequity is blooming.

County data is capturing evidence that Latinx and black people here have tested positive for COVID-19 at rates that outsize their population numbers.

The unequal infection rate is linked to where people work or are confined, 9th Street Journal reporter Jake Sheridan reports.

At Monday’s City Council meeting, elected leaders voiced relief that a weekend of national protests had been peaceful locally. While protests continued, officials and residents expressed mourning, anger a drive to bring more change to Durham, reporter Charlie Zong reports.
