Day 3: Jury selection continues in Faith Hedgepeth trial

12:16 p.m. — Two more potential jurors let go

Two more potential jurors were dismissed for cause. Assistant District Attorney Angela Garcia-Lamarca had asked them if they could be “fair and impartial” to the defendant and the State of North Carolina by assessing their previous media exposure to the case. Both said they could not be, because of what they had already read in the news.

10:51 a.m. — Two potential jurors dismissed

Around 10 a.m., two potential jurors were dismissed after expressing reservations about their ability to look at photographs from the crime scene during trial.

“You will see blood, you will see damage to the victim’s body,” Assistant District Attorney Angela Garcia-Lamarca had warned the jurors.

“I can hear a description of something graphic; I would have a hard time with my eyes open,” one of the jurors said.

The other juror had lost family members to murder, and admitted that she occasionally experienced panic attacks.

“I have talked about you being 23, but I realize—you have experienced a lot,” Garcia-Lamarca said, not breaking eye contact—to which the juror nodded emphatically, “Yes.”

Both jurors were dismissed for cause.
