In an effort to help Spanish and English speakers become bilingual, Lakewood Elementary School has launched a dual-language immersion class.
Students will learn all subjects in both languages over six years. They start with Spanish and then add more English into their school days.
The hope is that this helps with academic success as well as cultural understanding and connection among the children and their families.
9th Street Journal reporter Michaela Towfighi explains the approach and why teachers and Lakewood’s principal are excited about the new classroom here.
