At one point Thursday morning, the Durham County website said the lines for early voting were so long at some polls that the wait was two hours.
But the lines didn’t deter thousands of Durham voters who said they were determined to vote on the first day. As Priscilla Wald, a Duke English professor put it, “We’ve been waiting to vote for four years.”
Wald and others said this election was especially important. ” We want to make sure our vote counts and we get this guy out of office,” she said. “There is no question that this is the most important election of my life.”
Reporter Rebecca Torrence talked to the voters and photographer Henry Haggart captured these scenes.
