Day 2: Jury selection continues in Faith Hedgepeth trial

4:56 p.m. — Court concludes for the day, with still no jurors seated

Jury selection continued throughout the second day of trial.

The proceedings focused on asking potential jurors about their media consumption and their personal background. They were questioned about their views on underage drinking and partying, and their ability to fairly and impartially judge any evidence presented.

At this point, no jurors have been selected.

1:45 p.m. — Jury selection continued throughout the morning and into the afternoon

Jury selection resumed shortly after 9.30 a.m. There are dozens of potential jurors in the jury pool. The court ultimately needs to select 12 jurors and four alternates.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys focused their questions on potential jurors’ media consumption related to the case. Attorneys are trying to determine if potential jury members would be able to be fair and impartial despite any news stories they may have seen or read.

Four jurors were dismissed today because they have pre-paid upcoming trips or childcare issues. Another was dismissed because she said she could not be impartial based on what she had already read about Faith Hedgepeth’s death.

The court is in recess until 2:30 for lunch break. When court resumes, attorneys will continue to question potential jurors one by one about any previous knowledge they may have about the case.
