Ward 1
Instead of traditional profiles, we decided to use a short video format to learn about the Ward 1 candidates for City Council. We invited the candidates to answer this question in 30 seconds or less: What’s one thing Durham should do better or differently?
Mayor
Incumbent Leonardo Williams is running for reelection on the slogan “Durham is Dope — Because of of Us.” Our writer Gabrielle Lazor found lots of support for him, although some Durhamites feel he’s a little out of touch.
Challenger Pablo Friedmann got a late start in the race, but writer Reece Mackinney reported that he has been emphasizing the importance of transparency and more involvement of stakeholders in government decisions.
