City to hold public hearing on community needs and federal funds

The Durham City Council will hold a public hearing on Monday, Jan. 21, to discuss community needs and how federal funds can be used to address them.

The hearing, scheduled for 7 p.m. during the City Council meeting, will focus on the city’s Five-Year Consolidated Plan and fiscal year 2025-2026 Annual Action Plan.

These plans outline how the city will use funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, including Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships Program Consortium, Emergency Solutions Grant, and Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS funds.

While the exact funding amounts for the upcoming program year have not been determined, the city expects to receive a total of roughly $4.3 million from these funds.

Durham residents interested in sharing their input can attend the public hearing in person at 101 City Hall Plaza. Public comments can also be submitted online via a form. Instructions for providing public comments at the meeting are available online.
