For the second time this month, frustration and outrage over police misconduct against Black people dominated a Durham City Council meeting on Monday.<\/span> \n<\/span> \n<\/span>Council members reported receiving thousands of emails demanding that they defund the police department. Dozens of community members spoke at their virtual meeting urging the same thing.<\/span> \n<\/span> \n<\/span>Despite repeating their support for reforming the city\u2019s police department, city council members unanimously passed the city\u2019s <\/span>$502 million 2020-2021 budget<\/span><\/a>, which includes $70 million for the police department, a 5% increase from last year.<\/span><\/p>\n
