The city of Durham will receive $12 million in federal money to pay for pedestrian safety upgrades on the city\u2019s busiest bus route along Holloway Street, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced.<\/span><\/p>\n The grant will support new curb ramps at 33 intersections, new flashing beacons at two mid-block crossings and upgrades to all 32 bus stops for shelters, lighting, benches and bike racks.<\/span><\/p>\n The project is under design, with construction expected to begin in 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n Between 2017 and 2021, 46 pedestrian crashes were recorded in the project area, three of which were fatal and four with serious injuries, the department said.<\/span><\/p>\n The project will improve safety and expand access to GoDurham’s Route 3\/3B\/3C, which has the city’s highest ridership, with 3,291 weekday riders.
