The N.C. Department of Transportation named a Durham highway after former Duke University men\u2019s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski at a ceremony in Cameron Indoor Stadium last Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n The section of Cameron Boulevard from Kerley Road to Duke University Road was renamed the Coach K Highway, in honor of Krzyzewski\u2019s 42 years as the head coach of the Duke men\u2019s basketball team.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThis is an honor for me and my family,\u201d Krzyzewski said. \u201cThe highway signifies the journey of me, my wife, Mickie, and my family for the last 44 years. When we came to Durham, we found a home. Durham is our home. When I think of Coach K Highway, I think of my mom and dad, and my brother, Bill. They would be so proud.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Governor Roy Cooper was unable to attend the ceremony but sent a video message that was played at the event.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThis highway sign will mark Coach K\u2019s drive to the Duke campus each day,\u201d Cooper said. \u201cAnd it will no doubt inspire others to travel the road to their kind of greatness.
