Scenes from winter

Along with icy roads and traffic mishaps, Saturday’s snow brought scenes of celebration across downtown Durham, as locals came out to toss snowballs at the American Tobacco Campus and to climb and snowboard at Durham Central Park (above and below).

The snow blanketed picnic tables at Bull McCabe’s downtown and decorated the Major the Bull statue at CCB plaza (below).

Freezing temperatures also turned the fountain at the Durham Convention Center Plaza into an ice sculpture (below).

Some took a hands-on approach to exploring the snow (below).

Others — including the canine crowd — welcomed the white stuff into late afternoon, when a thinning carpet of snow signaled that the winter show was coming to an end. (below).
